Crime in Nigeria: a case study of armed robbery in Port Harcourt

The Federal Republic of Nigeria, which became a sovereign state in October 1960, politically, economically and population-wise is a great African nation, which, like every other capitalist country in the world today has a crime problem. In 1960 it recorded a total number of 66 766 crimes. This figure increased steadily in 1961 by 12,9 per cent, and reached an all-time high of 372 558 in 1984 with an annual increase of 458 per cent.
