THE NIGERIAN STEEL SECTOR IN THE GLOBAL STEEL INDUSTRY

This paper examines the nature and process of the re incorporation of the Nigerian steel sector into the world capitalist steel industry, and analyses its Consequences for the country’s deepening industrial backwardness. It argues that the Nigerian State has, on account of its capitalism, collaborated with the steel transnational corporations to undermine the country’s steel sector It submits that unless the State rethinks both its approach to steel development and current strategy of industrialization, Nigeria’s capacity to achieve autonomy m technology development will remain a failure.
