Jurisdiction of Nigerian Courts in Environmental Matters: a Note on Shell v Abel Isiah

Against the background of constant problems of access to justice, the decision of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in the case of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited v Abel Isiah underscores how technical justice can undermine environmental integrity. This article provides an overview of the decision, and demonstrates why society must stay alert to fresh possibilities to achieve environmental justice.
