Trade Liberalization and the Collapse of the Nigerian Textile Industry
This study examines the circumstances leading to the imminent collapse of the Nigerian textile industry. With a decline from124 to 45 firms between 1994 and 2005, a decrease in employment by 87% from 150,000 to about 20,000 in that period, and the few survivingfirms operating at less than 40% installed capacity; total collapse of the industry is imminent.
