Board Diligence and Asset Quality of Listed Deposit Money Banks in Nigeria

The study examined the effect of board diligence on the asset quality of listed deposit money banks in Nigeria. The study adopted an ex-post facto research design over the period 2015 to 2024. The population comprised thirteen listed deposit money banks on the Nigerian Exchange Group, with a sample size of twelve banks after excluding Unity Bank due to missing 2024 reports. Secondary data were collected from the annual reports of the selected banks, focusing on the number of board meetings as a measure of board diligence and the non-performing loan ratio as a measure of asset quality.
