Government Social Services Expenditure and Poverty Reduction in Nigeria

This paper explores the relationship between poverty alleviation in Nigeria and government spending on social services. The poverty rate is the dependent variable and the independent variables are health, education, social assistance, housing and community development spending and unemployment. The study employs annual time series data from 1986 to 2024 to investigate both short-run and long-run effects using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach.
