African Customs and Women’s Rights Within the Global Human Rights Framework: Interrogating the Status Quo

In many Sub-Saharan African societies, the promotion of gender equality is perceived as an affront to culture and tradition. Women are therefore faced with the difficult choice of preference for their custom or their rights in a society where condonation of women’s rights violation in preference to men’s dominant tendencies is viewed even by the women victims as a sign of love and good upbringing.
