Adapting global legislative modernisation standards: Assessing the suitability of international PLS practices for Nigeria’s national assembly

This paper examines the suitability of international post-legislative scrutiny (PLS) practices for Nigeria’s National Assembly within its distinct political and governance environment. Drawing on qualitative data from key informant interviews with legislators, committee officials, civil society actors and policy practitioners, the research identifies four central themes shaping Nigeria’s capacity to adopt global PLS standards: structured oversight mechanisms, inter-branch collaboration, public engagement, and evaluation frameworks.
