Timely Dispensation of Criminal Trials in Nigeria: A Critical Examination of the Administration of Criminal Justi
This paper examines delayed criminal trials in Nigeria through the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 and the institutions responsible for moving a criminal case from arrest to judgment. The Act contains several time controls. Remand is subject to short return periods, while Magistrates’ Court cases are subject to commencement and reporting periods. Legal advice is required within fourteen days after receipt of the police file, while information filed in the High Court is subject to assignment and notice periods.
