46. Notes on the Ethnology of Nigeria.

I should like, after the kind interest you evinced, to give you a general idea as to my impressions after some years' sojourn in Nigeria. My headquarters have, up to the present, been at Lokoja.I have, also, at times, resided at Egga, Muraji, Jebba, Leaba, Boussa, and Yelwa; the last-named towni being within four days' march of Sokoto.Whiilst ascending the Niger, one cannot help being impressed with the variety of races that inhabit its banks.Down in the Delta, amongst the myriad creeks and for 150 miles or so up river, the short, curly-haired, thick-lipped negro is in sole possession.
