Nigeria: the task of conflict resolution
A great deal of contemporary writing on the Nigerian problem displays an unfortunate superficiality; it somehow fails to take account both of the complexity of the forces involved, and of the way that African society actually works. The roots of conflict and of reconciliation are difficult to trace for those who have not had experience of dealing with them in microcosm in the field of African administration. The African capacity to generate quarrels surprises the European, so also does his capacity to work out techniques to reconcile them. It is with these techniques that we are concerned.
