The tradition of advocacy in the Yoruba courts
Studies in African styles of advocacy are difficult to find although Africa maintains the longest history of such traditions dating from the writings of Khun‐anup and Ptahhotep. The Yoruba of Nigeria have developed an extensive system of advocacy based on the idea of group consensus. This paper explores how Yoruba people argue their cases and find harmony out of a context of disputations.
