The Manipulation of Time: Calendars and Power in the Sahara

By calendar is meant the way of perceiving periods of time longer than the day and shorter than the year. Both of these periods are determined by clear-cut natural phenomena: the day is defined by periods of light and darkness and the year by the full circle of the seasonal cycle.
