The collection of Arabic letters and materials from the chan cery of the first olubadan of Ibadan, Okunola c Abbas Ales hinloye (1930-46), which includes the account of a communal crisis whose implications were dealt with in the previous issue, also permits unusual insights into strategies and con structions of local leadership under colonial rule.
