The role of Nigeria in the evolution of west African regional security and democratisation:Contradictions, paradoxes and recurring themes
The article explores Nigeria's potential for becoming a leading provider of peacekeeping expertise for the rest of Africa in light of the country's return to democracy in 1999. It charts the contradictory stances of Nigeria at home and abroad in peacekeeping missions in Sierra Leone and Liberia. The article proceeds to place the role of the military in Nigeria's political development within an West African context bedevilled by military coups.
