IMPERIAL ANTECEDENTS OF THE CONTENTIOUS CAMEROON-NIGERIA BORDER DISPUTE

This paper posits that the Cameroon-Nigeria border dispute has its roots in the imperial ambition of metropolitan Europe.It utilized historical data, official document and existing literature to establish that colonial treaties between Germany, Britain and France gave little premium to the right of the indigenous Africans along the border areas. It is this imperial negligence that sowed the seed of what later emerged as the contentious border dispute between these two countries from the Lake Chad basin to the Atlantic Ocean.
