Breakdown and Reconstitution: Democracy, the nation-state, and ethnicity in Nigeria, by Abu Bakarr Bah

Bah's book begins with an attempt to ground the reader in the discourse of democratic theory. The descriptive start is used as the basis for emphasizing the ‘gaps’ within the democratization literature; the case of Nigeria is used as the primary basis of ‘disproof’. Although interesting, particularly for those with a penchant for ‘grand theorizing’, it is an introduction that will confuse most readers.
