Trade Unions, the State and Labour Mobility in ECOWAS
In January 1983 an estimated 2 000 000 aliens mostly of West African origin, were expelled by the Nigerian state for over-staying their legal residency permit. The expulsion order naturally raised many issues of international interest, not least of which is international labour mobility and solidarity, on which this chapter focuses.
