South African businesses no longer simply conduct their business within our borders. With the post-1994 opening up of the South African economy, local enterprises have established themselves in other countries throughout Africa. This is perhaps most dramatically illustrated through figures quoted by CNN Money in September 2007: trade between South Africa and Nigeria increased from US$11m in 1994 to more than $11bn in 2005.
