SP 89/35/26 | Secretaries of State: State Papers Foreign, Portugal. Burnett, Charles Compton, Baron Tyrawly and Arthur Stert. | Folio 48: Duke of Newcastle to Lord Tyrawly. King warmly approves of Tyrawly's action in asking Capt. Byng R.N. to go to Lagos (f.42); but it is not practicable to alter present arrangement whereby the commanders of H.M. ships receive orders only from the Admiralty or from one of H.M. principal Secretaries of State. But King is confident that R.N. captains will always cooperate with H.M. envoys. Date and place: 1728 July 2 London.
