Letter dated 23 December 1999 from the Secretary-General addressed to the President of the Security Council
Reports that Nigeria as well as Ghana and Guinea intend to withrdraw their troops from the Military Observer Group (ECOMOG) of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) making it impossible for ECOMOG to perform its vital functions; recommends to the Security Council to expand the mandate of UN Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) to enable it to assume the functions now performed by ECOMOG.
