Since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999, the Government has undertaken a wide range of macro-economic and structural reforms. Economic growth during 2000-2004 was satisfactory, averaging 4.8 percent annually, and fiscal deficits continuously declined since 2003, reflecting the Government’s prudent monetary and fiscal stance pursued over the recent past.
